Effect of Having a Baby on Car Insurance Premium

Having a baby is not a typical criterion that affects the premium rate of your car insurance. Some insurance companies would like to pamper their customers by showering special offers like discounts on lifestyle events such as marriage and having a baby. They attribute this rate reduction of car insurance premium to these events signaling of greater maturity of the individual.  Typically insurance premiums do not have any relation to events like having a baby. The insurance companies tend to believe that with a baby in the vehicle you would be a more responsible and mature driver thus reducing the risk to the insurer.  This reduction in premium is only marginal and very few companies allow premium reduction for having a baby.

But not all insurance companies will the premium rates if you for having a baby. So you can ask your agent or insurance company representative if they allow any such discount.   It is matter that most people actually wonder if they should buy additional coverage in their car insurance.

The insurance rate will not be affected generally because of a new baby. Car insurance rates will be affected only if you add a child to the insurance policy when he/she is 16 years old. Adding a teenager may result in an increase of 50% or even 100% in your car insurance premium.

As time passes having children in your vehicle will start distracting you from driving causing you to lose concentration on your driving. This will put you and the child in great risk of a potential accident. The safety of you and your family in jeopardy and this is a major concern for auto insurance companies. The premium can be affected and will depend upon the child safety measures you take while driving. You can expect a good driver discount if you follow child safety laws and also install proper car seats for your child.

Your agent or insurance company would be able to guide you on how you can keep your car insurance premiums from going up in changing circumstances in life such as having a baby.   You have many options to keep your family car insurance cost from increasing.
