Coverage Available Under Liability Auto Insurance

Driving a car means there is a risk involved as there is always a probability of causing damage to other persons or properties. These damages incur huge amounts of money and most people may not be able to cover these damages. This is the reason why governments require all drivers to have liability insurance that will cover any losses that you cause on others or their property.  Any amount that exceeds this limit will be your responsibility and you must pay for them personally.

When you have valid auto insurance, and cause an accident your insurance company will pay for any personal injury to the persons you injure and any damage caused to their properties.  The amount will depend upon the maximum limit you have specified at the time of purchase of your insurance policy.  This amount varies from state to state and the premiums will depend on the amount of coverage you choose.

Liability auto insurance is the motorist’s obligation to pay for the damages when he or she is at fault in an accident resulting in bodily injury or damage to property.  Most states in the US require people driving vehicles to carry minimum liability coverage of auto insurance to ensure the safety of all concerned. This pays for the medical expenses and property damages caused by the driver to others in a road accident.  The amount depends on the limit of the insurance policy.  Insurance companies provide coverage as a combined single insurance or split into two for coverage of bodily injury and property damage.

The liability auto insurance generally consists of the following three main types of coverage: depending on what liabilities they cover:

  1. Liability auto insurance coverage
  2. Comprehensive auto insurance coverage
  3. Collision auto insurance coverage

Bodily injury coverage can protect you from the costs of emergency medical aid at the accident spot, medical bills for injuries and sickness, funeral expenses, compensation for loss of income resulting from the accident, any legal fees, bail bonds and more.  To make sure that your insurance takes care of many such eventualities, you can purchase the highest limit that you can afford.

If you damage others’ property during an accident that you cause, your auto insurance will pay for the expenses incurred to repair and replacement of vehicles involved, structural damage or repair and replacement of any other objects.   This insurance coverage will help you to protect your assets in the event of any lawsuit resulting from the accident.

Auto insurance liability simply means the driver’s legal obligation to pay for damages when at fault in an auto accident or other situation where bodily injury and/or property damage is incurred.
